Praying for a Community

by MCA Designs on February 6, 2010

This is my friend, Dedra, getting ready for Blissdom 2010 earlier in the week. I was sitting in a chair talking to her, and noticed that the light from the window was shining in on her face just right. She looked so beautiful and happy scouring over her workshops for the weekend. I knew that I needed to capture it. I knew that it would be my photo of the day.

I won’t go into all the when and where and how we met but I will tell you that it was a divine appointment. Dedra calls herself “Just a Chick” but she has been so much more than “just” anything in our friendship. She is one of the most thoughtful, generous, kind and loving friends I’ve ever had. I have prayed for a mentor for years. I believe God finally sent her to me.

While Dedra’s Blissdom weekend started out blissfully, she was notified of a tragedy in her community yesterday. Her blissful plans for the weekend have taken a turn back toward home where she has friends and family members in shock, devastated, hurting, and questioning why. Dedra has such a tender heart and dearly loves these people in her community. I want to do something to give back to her, as she is constantly pouring into my life. All I know to do from here is to pray for her – pray for them.

Will you join me in praying for Dedra, her family and friends, and her community?

This is one of those times when I just can't seem to find the words to pray. I have to trust and rely on my spirit crying out to our Father.

Please Father, help them.

I'm committed to praying for Dedra and her community. It was weighing heavy on her last night, as we were together at Blissdom in Nashville. Prayin' like crazy. Love y'all.
